There also lots of modern architecture which has architectural and urban space. Recently an affair explored works of architects, designers and photographers about waterfront and island.
ICON(Incheon CONference) choice opened in Incheon Art Platform on October 31st looked into two architect’s imagination with the topic ‘Imagine the waterfront’. Prof. Taigyoun Cho proposed effective way of utilizing the sea with spatial, ecological meaning of the sea. Architect Yoongyoo Jang introduced waterfront at various place on the earth and recent trial to build a system with integrating the architecture and the nature.
ICON choice opened in Songdo on November 10th looked at three islands located Incheon with the topic ‘Incheon, the city of the sea, island and land’. Hanging Wing project team on Munkab-island suggested sustainable development plan grafts the culture and the art for Munkab-island where about 70 residents are dwelling. Myungchul Choi who recently awarded at Incheon Architecture Competition pointed out problems of already urbanized Wolmi-island and suggested solution as a student. Lastly Architect S.O.A presented about Gulup-island outstanding geomorphologically and has high ecological value. They suggested architectural space for environment study of Gulup-island and art program for sustainable development of the island. It is resemble geography of the island and shows relationship between the island and land through visual art program using the island as the stage.
This conference looked into various possibility of the waterfront, furthermore made people rethink about architectural and urban space that Incheon has. Incheon, facing the sea and having wet-land as the boundary of the land and island, is expected having its own waterfront after adopting the art and architecture.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”한국어” tab_id=”1422165837-2-77″][vc_column_text]인천은 바다와 갯벌, 그리고 크고 작은 섬들이 위치한 지역이다. 지역적 특징 외에도 근대건축물이 많이 포진된 지역으로 건축적, 도시적 다양한 공간들을 가지고 있다. 최근 이러한 인천에서 수공간과 섬에 대한 건축가와 디자이너, 사진작가들의 활동을 탐색해보는 자리를 마련하였다.
10월 31일 인천아트플랫폼에서 열린 ICON choice는 ‘수공간을 상상하다’라는 주제로 두 건축가의 상상력을 엿보았다. 조택연 교수는 바다가 가진 공간적 생태적 의미를 통해 바다를 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 미래의 방안들을 제시하였다. 건축가 장윤규는 세계 곳곳의 수공간의 특징을 살펴보고, 건축과 자연을 적극적으로 통합하여 하나의 새로운 시스템을 구축하기 위한 최근의 시도에 대해 발표하였다.
11월 10일 송도에서 열린 ICON Choice에서는 ‘바다와 섬과 뭍의 도시, 인천’ 이라는 주제로 인천에 위치한 세곳의 섬들을 살펴보았다. 문갑도 날개달기프로젝트팀은 문갑도라는 인구 70여명의 섬에 문화와 예술을 접목시킨 지속 가능한 섬 개발에 방안을 제시하였다. 최근 인천 건축공모전에서 대상을 수상한 최명철은 이미 도심화가 진행된 월미도의 문제점들을 꼬집고, 학생다운 해결방안을 제안하였다. 마지막으로 지형학적으로 뛰어나며, 생태적 가치가 높은 굴업도에 대해 건축가 S.O.A의 발표가 진행되었다. S.O.A는 굴업도의 환경 연구를 할 수 있는 건축적 공간을 제시하고, 섬이 지속적으로 발전할 수 있는 예술프로그램을 제안하였다. 섬의 지형과 닮아 있으며, 섬 자체가 무대가 될 수 있는 ‘춤’이라는 시각적 예술프로그램을 통해 섬과 육지의 연결관계를 보여주었다.
이번 컨퍼런스는 수공간의 다양한 가능성에 대해 제시하고, 나아가 인천이 가진 건축적 공간과 도시적 공간에 대해 다시금 생각하게 하였다. 바다와 면해있으며, 육지와 바다의 경계인 갯벌을 가지고 있고, 수많은 섬 공간을 가진 인천이 건축과 문화를 받아들여 독특한 인천만의 수공간을 가지길 기대해 본다.
