A planning means designing the most appropriate steps to achieve the objective. In prior to planning a house, office or a commercial space, the act of designing the process of putting the architect’s and client’s ideas into the architecture is the planning step in architecture. Through strategic planning, THE_SYSTEM LAB recreates the client’s thoughts with a practical value that considers the relationship between the user and the space. When the project is for a company setting, the entrepreneurial spirit is embedded through the usage of appropriate design philosophy for a business model.
Architecture does not only reveal its series of system through the exterior skin, but also in multiple facets such as the construction phase, user oriented design, and post management. THE_SYSTEM LAB creates its own keywords for the studio with the development of manufacturing and design-technology. The traditional materials for construction have already reached the limits of their physical property of the matter, which makes it difficult to produce a new. Furthermore, when there is not an enough time and/or budget, it is harder to find a balance in supply-demand relationship with the existing materials(Concrete, Wood, Stone and so..). However, direct fabrication of the construction materials will reduce the time and budget as well as engage the most appropriate system into the project. Rather than simply finding the new way to produce, THE_SYSTEM LAB creates its unique value through the possession design technology.

The model house unit(called a show hose, display house) for Samsung Raemian project is the first to incorporate a dismantling system where the unit would be disassembled rather than demolished after its use. With this innovated system, it would save the time and cost for constructing the next model units. In the case of KCC Project, it incorporates Mold Design system. It is clear that making more molds would cost more; however, a unique design was found through minimized mold. In another case, Paul Smith flagship store, it integrates the Styrofoam Casting system. This system helped to save time. A crane is required to lift large or heavy materials; however since the Styrofoam is very light in weight and does not take much time to make one, it reduced the construction time.
Accumulation of experience and a space of learning

Currently led by leading architect Kim Chan-Joong in THE_SYSTEM LAB is accumulating variety of systems. The team does not approach each project with the same system, and applies the most appropriate system for each. Kim Chan-Joong runs the firm with about 10 people at the office. Also, he values each individual’s experiences and collaboration as a team. Furthermore, he hopes to see each person to expand the knowledge and construct new SYSTEM LAB at other places as well. “THE” from THE_SYSTEM LAB represents the first and center. And the prospective architects learn different systems through participating in variety projects. Then member creates his or her own title after “THE”, and it becomes a new “_SYSTEM LAB”. In other words, THE_SYSTEM LAB is a place for the prospective architects to build experiences and learn. It is an incubator for the architects.
