In 2014, people’s interest in architecture has increased. Including architectural exhibits, various architectural events were continuously held. There were 14 architect based exhibits and various art exhibits which architect involved. Architect endeavored to be closed to public through exhibits, and as a result architectural culture became very active in Korea.
National Museum of Contemporary Art has separate architectural gallery to hold Archive Exhibit of one or two architect every year. This year, architects were explored again through private exhibition of Itami Jun and Jong-sung Kim of SAC International, Ltd.
Currently, private exhibition of Minsuk Cho, who is an architect and Chief Curator of Venice Biennale, is proceeding.
Architect also ran the exhibit with companies or organizations. Hyundai Card supports young architects, Union Steel held exhibit with architect, Arumjigi and Docomomo Korea ran an exhibit which the characteristics of organization can be revealed.
Seoul City granted Architecture Award every year in order to improve encouragement of architects and provided various programs so public can easily learn about architecture. On top of that, we could peek at the idea of architects through architectural sculpture and architectural rhapsody.
The most important key word of Korean Architecture is sharing, dwelling, and housing. There were various exhibits about dwelling.
For the past years, Korea focused on real estate and construction in lieu of architecture due to rapid economic growth. However, understanding of architecture has changed recently through various architectural exhibits and architecture cultural events.
We look forward to see various exhibits and architectural works of architects in 2015.
